Do you think that people take advantage of the ability to "thumbs up/down" people's answers?

I provided a really good and helpful answer and like a day later I went to see what other people thought and who got best answer and every answer was voted down for some reason (there were like 10 answers). I know not a big deal but I'm just wondering what you guys think?
