I have a minute hole in retina of y left eye, how serious is this problem?

hi myself deep of 22 years, today i went to a doctor and after checking my eyes he told me i have small hole in retina of my left eye, and doctor suggest me for laser treatment. i just want to ask how serious is this problem and whether laser is risky treatment or not?
